The Team

Tim Haley

Dr. Haley is a Management and Technical Professional with over 40 years of food industry experience in product quality, safety and regulatory compliance. His experience in solving problems spans the gamut from the factory floor the corporate board room.

His work includes coaching and training others in technical and business leadership, establishment of food safety and quality plans, control system validation, and thermal processing establishment, verification and auditing.

Relevant Career Highlights

  • Bush Brothers & Company – Vice President of Quality, Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance. Responsible to assure that programs were in place and effective to assure product integrity. Provided technical leadership training and coaching throughout the organization. Served as the head thermal process authority for the company.
  • Purdue University – Assistant Professor and Director, Computer Integrated Food Manufacturing Center, Department of Food Science. Faculty appointments in research, teaching and extension. Over 40 publications and presentations in the area of food manufacturing control systems. Organizer and primary instructor for annual Food Process Automation Workshops.
  • Allpax Products – Vice President of Technical Services. Responsible for oversight of the development, implementation and installation of retort control systems for batch agitating retorts.
  • TechniCAL – Technical Services Director. Responsible for the development of numerical modeling software CalsoftTM and NumeriCALTM as well as the LOG-TECTM Retort Control System. These products have now been established as food industry standards to evaluate and deliver thermal processes for low-acid canned foods.
  • Casera Foods – Quality Systems Manager. Responsible for development and implementation of Quality, Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance systems on the plant floor. Primary Thermal Process Authority for the company.

Relevant Projects

  • At Purdue University, I assisted the food industry in developing novel process control strategies. Educated the food industry on control theory and control system validation concepts. Key contributor to Bulletin 43-L, “Validation Guidelines for Automated Control of Food Processing Systems” published by the National Food Processors Association.
  • At Bush Brothers & Company, I developed programs that aligned Quality, GMP, HACCP and Regulatory Compliance procedures across manufacturing plants. Through implementation of new and revised systems and training, product holds were reduced by over 90%.
  • Working through the University of Tennessee Extension Service, I provide thermal processes to small food producers in the Southeast region who manufacture acidified and low-water activity foods.
